Ask a Psychoanalyst: Reader Submission Terms

The Ask a Psychoanalyst column in The American Psychoanalyst (TAP) invites readers to share questions about therapy, relationships, and the psychology of everyday life. Before submitting, please review the terms below, which explain how questions may be used and clarify the limits of the column.

By submitting a question to Ask a Psychoanalyst, you agree to the following terms.

Consent to Publication

You grant The American Psychoanalyst and its publisher, the American Psychoanalytic Association, permission to publish your question in edited form in print, online, or on social media. Submissions may be edited for length, clarity, and style.

Anonymity

Questions may be published anonymously or with identifying details changed to protect privacy. While TAP will take reasonable steps to remove identifying information, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

No Professional Relationship

Responses in this column are provided for general educational and informational purposes only. Submitting a question or reading a response does not create a therapist–patient, doctor–patient, or professional advisory relationship with the columnist, The American Psychoanalyst, or the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Not Professional Advice

The column is not a substitute for professional mental health care, medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are experiencing psychological distress or a mental health emergency, please seek help from a qualified professional or appropriate services in your area.

Editorial Discretion

Due to the volume of submissions, TAP cannot respond to every question and cannot guarantee that a submitted question will be published or answered.

By submitting a question, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these terms.
